Arumbu (அரும்பு) means “bud” — a fitting name for a school where the next generation begins to bloom in our mother tongue.

Why Arumbu

Where children bloom in their mother tongue

Arumbu is the Tamil language school of Tamil Center of Stamford — and where our whole community began. Founded in 2014, Arumbu predates TCSI's incorporation in 2018 and remains the heart of everything we do. We teach children to read, write, speak, and appreciate Tamil through structured classes taught by passionate volunteer instructors.

Students don't just learn vocabulary and grammar — they learn songs, stories, and the cultural context that makes Tamil come alive.

Levels & schedule

  • Levels: Kindergarten through Grade 8
  • When: Fridays, 6:00 – 8:00 PM
  • Where: St. John's Lutheran Church, Stamford, CT
  • Term: One academic year (aligned with the school year)

Arumbu is taught by a team of volunteer instructors from the Tamil Center community, who bring deep knowledge of Tamil and a love of teaching to every class.
